Our Volunteers
Mick Oliver
Mick spent his first 7 years of life in Jaywick, a familiar face to many of our families.
After leaving school he worked in construction before pursuing commercial vehicle repairs
He has a wide variety of skills and a passion for anything with wheels! Remarkably non ego for a fine DJ, keen fitness fanatic, and qualified karate instructor. He brings a wealth of experience and good humour and great energy to our sessions. A great role model for our lads
Kevin
Kev joined our team in November last year and post helping to ‘sort out’ the relatively ‘new’ facilities at IV Jaywick, cooks for the Friday ' Lunch Club’.
Following a full 24-year Military Career during which, in his own words he ‘got to visit, sweep, clean and paint many countries of the world’. Kev worked in the hospitality industry with his partner ‘Liz’ and then in various other jobs until both retiring to Holland-on-sea.
Socially Kev, enjoys a game of Golf, is a member of the Clacton Bowls Club and likes to take part in Charity based quizzes and social events.
Lizzie Hart
‘Liz’ can usually be found at IV Jaywick on a Friday assisting Kev with the lunch club preparations, serving up the meals and the many behind scenes tasks.
Post her childhood in and around ‘The Forest of Dean’ South Wales, Liz was a ‘Licensee’ in the pubs & Hotels sector of the hospitality industry for 35 years, following which she enjoyed a further 13 years working for railways, largely based at Thorpe Le Soken railway station.
Post her retirement Liz is an avid member of the Clacton Volunteer litter pickers, a key volunteer with Tendring stroke services at the Star Centre in Holland-on-sea and Dovercourt and although not always ‘seen’ during performances, works as a volunteer with Indie at the Mad Theatre Company as a seamstress.
Con
Con is our Bike Kitchen volunteer. He runs both Clacton and Jaywick kitchens every week without fail, whatever the weather. A keen cyclist himself, he is passionate about enabling children to be independent and learn skills in order to maintain their own bikes. He also leads the Trishaw Project
Richard Poole
A marine engineer for 40 years. Rich has spent the last 6 years at a specialist therapeutic residential school working with young people with complex behavioural and emotional needs. Focusing on preparation for adulthood.
Mild mannered Rich is a calming influence and is currently helping IV with maintenance tasks in both of our venues, and occasionally in our activity sessions with the children and young people.
Toni
Toni’s commitment to community work is rooted in growing up in a close-knit local area and brings strong lived experience to IV. She believes in the potential of young people and the value of inclusive, supportive environments. Toni has worked with youth clubs, supported elderly residents, and contributed to community projects such as estate clean-ups. Creativity is central to her approach, delivering DJ workshops that build confidence, skills, and self-expression through positive role modelling.
James
James is our dedicated Bike Kitchen volunteer. His love of cycling and then fixing began at 3 years of age. As an adult he ran his own garage, and enjoyed racing cars.
